OneTap Saver for Instagram · Effective July 21, 2026
OneTap Saver ("the extension") is a browser extension for Google Chrome that lets you download the Instagram video, reel or photo you are viewing — as an MP4 or JPG file — from instagram.com. This policy explains what information the extension does — and, more importantly, does not — handle. The extension is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc.
None. The extension does not collect, transmit, store remotely, sell or share any personal information or browsing data. Specifically, we do not collect:
The extension has no server. There is nowhere for your data to be sent.
The extension stores only your own settings: the preferred quality, the file-naming choice, and the "ask where to save" switch. These are kept in Chrome’s extension storage (chrome.storage.sync). If you have Chrome sync enabled, Chrome itself syncs them across your devices as part of your Google profile — the developer never sees them. Uninstalling the extension removes its settings.
When you tap the download button (or use the popup), the extension reads the post’s media information from Instagram’s own web API — the same data the Instagram web app itself loads — using your logged-in session, entirely within your browser. The file is then fetched from Instagram’s media servers and handed to Chrome’s download manager. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
Access to Instagram(host permissions) | Required to read the media data of the Instagram post you are viewing and to fetch the video/photo files from Instagram’s own media servers (cdninstagram.com, fbcdn.net). The extension runs only on Instagram — it reads nothing anywhere else. |
downloads | Saves the chosen video or photo file through Chrome’s normal download manager, with a sanitized file name. |
storage | Saves your preferences described in section 3. |
scripting | Injects the extension’s content script into an Instagram tab that was already open when you installed the extension, so you don’t have to reload the page. |
activeTab | Lets the popup see the address of the tab you are on when you open it, so it knows which Instagram post it is looking at. |
declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess | Adds a Referer header to requests sent to Instagram’s media CDNs so that video files download instead of being refused (HTTP 403). The rule only sets that header on requests to those CDNs; it never blocks, reads or redirects any page. |
The extension uses no third-party services, analytics providers, advertising networks or remote APIs. All of its code is bundled inside the extension and runs entirely on your device. The only network requests it makes are to Instagram’s own website and media servers, on your behalf, to fetch the media you asked to save.
Please only download content you have the right to save — your own content, content you have permission to use, or content in the public domain — and respect Instagram’s Terms of Use, the rights of creators, and the copyright law of your jurisdiction. The extension is a tool; what you download with it is your responsibility.
Because the extension collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
If a future version of the extension ever changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the "Effective" date above revised before that version is released.
